As I stood in the torrential rain yesterday at Burghley Fine Food Fair, I had my fingers and toes crossed for a good day, and it WAS! We have REGULARS, fully fledged regulars! I had several people come up who had bought our products previously and wanted more, and a couple of people who came because we had posted we were there and wanted to grab themselves some quality wine! Running our own business keeps surprising me, and yesterday in the awful weather, having people come out of their warm and cosy houses to see us has to be a highlight of our journey so far, THANK YOU to each and everyone of you beautiful people, you are making the long nights worth it!
And its not just customers, our independant retailers are coming back for more too! Only 4 months into having our Wholsesalers Licence we have established relationships and the feedback we are getting in incredible.
When Charlie and I started this process, a wise businessperson ( sadly I cannot remember their name as I was in a breastfeeding/ sleepless nights haze!) said ” You will get unwaivered support from the most unlikely of places” and 16 months down the line, this phrase is becoming more and more relevant to our journey.

After a quiet winter we have had a busy start to the year, we have moved into new bigger premises. This is an exciting step for us and means that we can produce more wine than ever which is fantastic. It also means that we had a busy time getting everything kitted out for production as well as doing A LOT of Admin, but that is coming to and end now and we can focus on the exciting things like making and selling wine.
Now we have our base and completed mountains of paperwork we are now able to sell online so you can buy our Elderflower Sparkling Wine here. We have also completed the HMRC AWRS process which means that we can also sell to businesses so we will hopefully be arriving in local bars and Delis soon so keep an eye out for us.
As we have made our new home Grantham we have also been featured in the Grantham Journal which is very exciting as this is our first piece of press and a great write up. Read the full article here
Dan has just graduated from the University of Lincoln with a Graphic Design degree and we were able to offer employment as part of the Santander Graduate Scheme, which helps small businesses such as ours to employ graduates.
Dan has been a pivotal part of business as he helped us to come up with our logo, branding and guidelines, the clean, crisp finish of our designs is wholly due to his fantastic skills!
In Dan’s own words… “The scheme has been incredibly beneficial to me as I have been able to gain some key industry experience alongside my studies that will strengthen my CV and portfolio when I start looking for employment coming out of university”
29th April 2017 will always stick in my mind as the day we launched our business to the world! Waking up on the morning of the Melton Cheese Fair 2017 there was a buzz of excitement as we readied ourselves for departure, cash tin sorted, wine loaded and breakfast to keep us going all day…we hoped we would be too busy to eat! And we were right! Passing the paper bag to our first ever customer within 20 minutes of the Fair opening I had feelings I never expected; the sense of pride in handing over something my Husband had worked so hard to achieve, the relief at someone liking it so much they wanted share it with their family, and the euphoria at selling our own product. Hugh was our first customer of the day, and Mitch our last, as I asked them their names and told them the significance of the question they were kind, inquisitive and hugely complimentary, wishing us every luck for the future.
Sandwiched between the Kedar Cheese Company and the Marlow Cheese Company, Charlie and I had the best first Fair we could have imagined, the camaraderie and banter between stalls was second to none, and at the end each of us all sampling the others products, we even took our bar stools round the front and had other traders prop up our bar!
Reflecting on the weekend it was busy, chaotic and the hardest I have ever worked in my life, but worth every moment of the last 16 months!
